Two separate collisions on icy Highway 97 seven miles north of Orondo closed the highway for about an hour this morning, sending five people to the hospital with minor injuries.
About 6:42 a.m. a semi and a Ford Taurus were involved in a collision that blocked both lanes of the highway.
Trooper John Bryant of the Washington State Patrol said a Jeep Wrangler that stopped for the wreck was rear-ended by a Chevy Blazer that was then hit by a Buick Enclave.
Douglas County Fire District 4 reported that extraction tools had to be used to free three people from their vehicles and six people were treated at the scene in addition to the five who were taken to Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee.
Slippery road conditions also led to a two-vehicle accident on Highway 2 near the Big Y later this morning.
A GMC was hit by a Kia in that accident.
A pregnant woman in the GMC was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle as a precautionary move, Bryant said.
