The North Central Washington Fair in Waterville begins Thursday and in addition to its usual list of attractions, this year will feature a battle of the bands.
Nine musicians and groups will compete Thursday starting at 11 a.m. for a $500 prize and the opportunity to be the opening act Friday night for the fair’s headliner, country music star Craig Morgan.
Those performances are expected to last until about 5:30 p.m.
In addition to displays, demonstrations, food, livestock, a carnival and rodeo events, the fair this year features its first cornhole tournament.
The fair runs Thursday through Sunday, with the fairgrounds opening each morning at 9. On Thursday it closes at 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday at midnight. On Sunday, the fair wraps up at 6 p.m. Kids Day is Saturday.
Admission is $8 for adults and $6 for seniors and students. Ages 5 and under are free. Passes for all four days are $20 for adults and $16 for students and seniors.
Thursday is senior day, with everyone age 62 and older admitted free.
LINK Transit offering transportation from Wenatchee and East Wenatchee to Waterville and back for $2.50 each way. Seniors can ride for half fare.
