New wildfire north of Chelan prompts Level 3 evacuations

CHELAN — A Monday brushfire north of Lake Chelan Airport led authorities to set Level 3 evacuation notices, warning residents in the area of Apple Acres Road and Folsom Hollow Road to leave their homes immediately.

The Level 3 warning for that area went into effect about 1 p.m., according to Chelan Fire and Rescue. Level 2 notices were set for Cagle Gulch and Union Valley areas.

Local news source Lake Chelan Now said the start point appeared to be
near the intersection of Apple Acres Road and Antoine Creek Road, about four miles north of the airport and eight miles north of the city of Chelan itself.

The cause and size of the fire wasn’t immediately known Monday afternoon. Firefighters warned shifting strong winds in today’s red flag conditions made all wildfires in eastern Washington unpredictable and likely to grow throughout the day.
