New Wenatchee school superintendent will make $199,000 a year

Dr. Paul Gordon, the Wenatchee School District’s new superintendent, will be paid $199,000 dollars a year under a contract due to be approved tonight by the school board.

The contract will run through June, 2022 and also includes 25 days of vacation and 14 holidays annually, as well as $15,000 dollars in moving expenses and benefits.

Gordon will start work July 1.

Current Superintendent Brian Flones was due to retire Aug. 31, but the district amended that contract so Flones’ last day now will be June 30.

In exchange, Flones will receive a payment of more than $55,000 dollars, the amount he would have received had he stayed through July and August. That also includes unused vacation and personal time.

Flones had been making $197,000 dollars per year.

Gordon comes to Wenatchee from the Glen Ellyn School district in Illinois, where he has been superintendent since 2013.

He has been married to his wife, Marriane for 23 years and has two children, Matthew and Gabriella.
