NCW police agencies coping with new Washington accountability laws

NCWLIFE-TV hosted this live televised forum Sept. 8 with the Wenatchee Valley’s four top law enforcement officials — Wenatchee Police Chief Steve Crown, Chelan County Sheriff Briant Burnett, Douglas County Sheriff Kevin Morris and East Wenatchee Police Chief Rick Johnson — to discuss newly-enacted laws governing police pursuit, arrest, use of force and professional accountability. Changes in law that went into effect July 25 include Washington House Bill 1310, House Bill 1054, Senate Bill 5051 and the Washington Supreme Court’s State v. Blake decision eliminating simple drug possession as a felony.
