WENATCHEE- The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services hosted a naturalization ceremony at Rocky Reach Dam Thursday night.
Led by Norma Gallegos and Keith Brown, North Central Washington’s Immigration services have now hosted over 50 naturalization Ceremonies in the past 7 years.
Brown read the oath for the immigrants: “That I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion–so help me god.”
George Velazquez read a poem for the attendees:
“Give me your tired, your poor.
Your huddled masses yearning the to breathe fee.
The Wretched Refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I life my lamp beside the golden door!”
“My fellow Americans you have come to the golden door, what you do once you pass that golden door is up to you,” he said. “However once again I challenge you, I challenge you to get out there and improve your communities, your families, your work, your schools. Set that goal and accomplish that goal, innovate and continues to make a positive difference.”
