Logan Gilbert and four relievers combined to hold Houston in check as Seattle took two of three games from the first-place Astros.

Gilbert worked 5-innings of a 4-hit shutout ball and manager Scott Servais said that’s the best he’s ever looked…

Seattle was held to just three hits on the day but able to scratch the only run needed in the 6th inning…

Justus Sheffield, Casey Sadler, and Drew Steckenrider would hold on to the lead from there, handing it to Paul Sewald for the final outs…

Seattle improved to 10-games over .500 with the win at 72-and-62 and trails Houston by 6-and-a-half games in the American League West standings. The M’s are off until Friday when they’ll travel to Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks at 6:40.

Elsewhere in the A-L West yesterday, Colorado topped Texas 9-5. The Yankees beat the Angels 4-1. Detroit edged Oakland 8-6.

And in the Wild Card race, Toronto beat Baltimore 5-4 while Boston came from behind to beat Tampa Bay 3-2. The Yankees are still two clear of Boston while the Red Sox lead over Oakland is two games and 3-and-a-half over the Mariners.
