Mishaps and injuries kept crews busy at NCW Fair

Saturday was a busy day for emergency crews at the NCW Fair in Waterville.

In one incident, a pregnant woman found out her impending motherhood and carnival rides were a bad combination.

Shawn Ballard of Ballard Ambulance said the woman started having contractions during a ride.

Her trip to the hospital did not include giving birth on the way, Ballard said.

Also on Saturday, a horse racer was kicked in the head. Medical personnel bandaged his bleeding head and he insisted on getting back to racing, Ballard said.

At the rodeo, a man assisting with the chutes suffered a fractured pelvis after an encounter with a bull.

A fair attendee suffered breathing problems and also was transported Saturday, Ballard said.

The fair wrapped up its four-day run Sunday.
