Military personnel depart after a month helping out at Confluence Health

The 20-member medical team from the U.S. Navy deployed to help with the COVID-19 pandemic at Confluence Health has ended its mission there.

The team wrapped up its engagement this weekend after about a month working with coronavirus patients and staff at Central Washington Hospital.

It was one of two groups deployed to Washington hospitals by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, after a September request for military assistance from Governor Jay Inslee.

The purpose was to relieve pressure on hospital staff, who’ve been overworked caring for COVID-positive patients.

When the team arrived, about 42 people were hospitalized for COVID in Wenatchee; that number today was 29 patients, including 14 in intensive care.
