WENATCHEE — Wenatchee police carried on an eight-hour standoff with a stabbing suspect who barricaded himself in an outbuilding early today.

Police Capt. Edgar Reinfeld says a special tactical team used irritant gas to finally 25-year-old Francisco Javier Ruiz-Salgado Jr. out of the building in the 1700 block of Methow Street. Police arrested him shortly after 8 a.m.

Officers summoned to the address at 12:17 a.m. found a female victim in the street outside the home with multiple stab wounds, which were not life-threatening. Bloody footprints were visible near the address Thursday morning.

Ruiz lives at the Methow Street residence, but the victim does not, police said. Reinfeld said Ruiz was treated for gas exposure and jailed on suspicion of assault at the Chelan County Regional Justice Center.
