Memorial service will be March 14 for Forest Service employee who died after being buried by snow


A memorial service will be held March 14 to honor Kimiko Nalle who died Jan. 24 when she was buried by snow that had fallen from the roof of her home.

Nalle was a 26-year employee of the U.S. Forest Service and 17-year volunteer with Chelan County Fire District 6.

The accident happened at her home on Blewett Pass, about seven miles south of the Big Y.

Services for Nalle will be at 1 p.m. at Sage Hills Church in Wenatchee.

“Members of the public are invited to join her family and extended fire service network to celebrate her life of joy and service,” the fire district said in announcing the services.

Nalle had served as incident commander on several wildfires battled by the Forest Service.

The fire district extended its appreciation for the cards and letters sent thus far to Nalle’s family. Cards and letters can be sent in care of Chelan County Fire District 3, 228 Chumstick Highway, Leavenworth, WA, 98826.

The Kimiko Nalle Memorial Fund has been set up at Cashmere Valley Bank and contributions can be made at any branch.
