Mariners down Angels

Tim Beckam’s 2-run double capped a 4-run 1st inning for Seattle and Felix Hernandez pitched well on the mound as the Mariners beat the Angels 6-to-3 at T-Mobile Park last night…

Mariners down Angels

For Hernandez, Monday’s win ended a drought going back to last season. The veteran pitcher went the final three months of last season without a victory. He had to overcome four errors by the Mariners defense to open his 15th Major League season with a win. He allowed one earned run on seven hits in 5-and-a-third with no walks and four strikeouts.

Seattle improved to 6-and-1 with the win, tying the best start in franchise history with the 1984, ’85 and ’95 clubs.

The home run total jumped to 15 Monday when Jay Bruce hit a two run shot in the 7th to provide some needed cushion for the Mariners.

Seattle and Los Angeles finish the quick, two-game series tonight as Marco Gonzales faces Trevor Cahill at 7:10.
