Mariners looking good as spring season closes


The Mariners are suddenly down to just 5-games left of the spring and are showing more signs of being a pretty good team. Seattle won its 5th game out of its last 6 with last night’s 3-nothing win over Arizona. Chris Flexin and four relievers combined on a 7-hit shutout. Flexin went 5-innings to earn the victory, allowing no runs on 3-hits with 4-strikeouts and a walk.

Brown scored 2 along with Kendall Flanagan’s 2-goals as Eastmont shut out Cashmere last night 4-nothing. In other action, Chelan beat Brewster 3-1. Bridgeport doubled up Liberty Bell 4-2. Manson topped Pateros 2-1. Quincy walloped Warden 7-nothing. And Ephrata eked out a 1-nothing win over Okanogan.

The Seahawks have agreed to terms to bring in free agent defensive end Kerry Hyder, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter…

According to the report, Hyder agreed to a 2-year, 6-and-a-half million-dollar deal with a 3rd year option. Hyder started 14 of 16 games for the 49ers last year, totaling 49-tackles, 8-and-a-half sacks, 18-quarterback hits and 10-tackles for a loss.

In other Seahawks news, Seattle is also bringing back defensive end Benson Mayowa. This follows last week’s re-signing of center Ethan Pocic and running back Chris Carson.
