Mariners Fall to A’s in Opener 7-6

OAKLAND, CA – Well, if you went to bed early last night and gave up on the Mariners, you missed an incredible finish…although Seattle still lost…
Trailing 7-to-1 in the 8th with two outs, the Mariners rallied for two runs on Jean Segura and Nelson Cruz RBI singles. Then in the 9th, Ryon Healy scored on a bases-loaded wild pitch followed by Mitch Haniger’s two-run single to make it 7-6. Finally, Nelson Cruz was at bat with two on and two out…and he struck out to end the game.

Manager Scott Servais you can’t ask for much more than having your best hitter up with a chance to win it in the 9th…

Marco Gonzales had his second-consecutive outing with a loss, going five innings and allowing 4-runs on 8-hits with 4 strikeouts and 3-walks. Servais was asked about Gonzales have two straight less-than-stellar starts…

AL Lead is 2 for Houston over A’s, 4.5 over M’s

Also in the American League West last night as we look at the Les Schwab Scoreboard…
Robinson Chirinos went 2-for-4 with a 3-run home run and 4-RBI’s to lead Texas past Arizona 5-3.

Justin Upton’s 2-run home run capped a 4-run 10th for Los Angeles as the Angels rallied to beat San Diego 6-3.

Houston was idle last night, so the Astro’s lead in the West has shrunk to 2-games while Seattle trails the A’s by 2-and-a-half for the final Wild Card playoff spot.
