American League West Scoreboard

Checking the American League West Scoreboard, Jack Mayfield’s grand slam home run capped a 5-run 4th inning for the Angels as L-A topped the Yankees 8-7. Shohei Ohtani also hit his league-leading 42nd home run on the night.

It was a homer or go home night in Texas as the Rangers powered three over the fence in a 4-3 win over Colorado. Trevor Story tried to bring the Rockies back single-handedly with home runs of his own in the 7th and 8th.

American League Wild Card Race

The only good news for the Mariners last night is that everyone else in front of them in the Wild Card race also lost yesterday.

Brandon Lowe was 2-for-3 with a home run to lead Tampa Bay to it’s 8th straight win, downing Boston 6-1.

We mentioned the Yankees falling to the Angels. Oakland was idle. The only other game of interest had Toronto topping Baltimore 7-to-3 behind two home runs from Vladimir Guerrero.

New York remains two games in front of Boston in the top two A-L Wild Card playoff spots. Oakland is two games back while Seattle and Toronto are 4-and-a-half games back.

Seahawks trade for cornerback Sidney Jones

Seattle must feel it’s still shaky at cornerback as the regular season nears. They traded a 6th-round draft pick in next year’s draft for cornerback Sidney Jones yesterday. Jones was a star at the University of Washington who has had injury troubles in his three years in the NFL.

This marks the second cornerback the Seahawks have traded for in the past two weeks.

This is Eric Granstrom’s projected list of cuts for the Seahawks…
