The Mariners blew a 10-2 lead last night in Anaheim but somehow managed an 11-10 win on Jay Bruce’s RBI single in the top of the 9th inning…
Seattle built an early lead on a 3-run home run and another 2-run home run by Ryon Healy as well as a 3-run shot by Omar Narvaez. Meanwhile, Felix Hernandez was looking like the old “King Felix”, cruising through the first six innings, allowing 2-runs on 7-hits with 3-strikeouts.
But then came the 7th. Hernandez was pulled after giving up a leadoff single and RBI double and replaced by R.J. Alaniz. Los Angeles tagged him for a 2-run home run by Kole Calhoun, 2-RBI doubles and a 2-run single before being replaced. Brandon Brennan came in and threw a wild pitch to allow a run to score before getting the final out. 7-runs had scored and Seattle’s lead had shrunk to 10-9.
David Fletcher homered off the 2nd pitch thrown by Anthony Swarzak in the 8th to tie the game at 10.
In the 9th, Mitch Haniger got aboard with a one-out single and stole second with two outs. Bruce followed a walk to Edwin Encarnacion with an RBI single to left, scoring Haniger to put the M’s back up 11-10.
Roenis Elias worked to four batters in the bottom of the 9th to earn his 3rd save, snapping Seattle’s 6-game losing streak.
The series continues in Anaheim tonight at 7:07 with Marco Gonzales going up against Felix Pena.
