A man was shot twice outside a party in East Wenatchee late Monday evening, the Douglas County Sheriff’s office reported.
The 21-year-old man from Michoacan, Mexico, suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being shot while standing in a field talking on his phone in the 5300 block of Fourth Street Southeast.
Deputies first became aware of the shooting at about 11:19 p.m. when they were contacted by Central Washington Hospital staff, where the man had been taken in a private vehicle for treatment.
Sheriff Kevin Morris said the unidentified man had been at a social gathering and at some point walked away from the group into an open field to talk on his phone.
While in the field, someone believed to be from the same gathering shot a firearm into the field, hitting the man twice.
The investigation into the shooting continues, though investigators believe it was an isolated incident and there is no public safety risk.
