Man accused of recording sexual assaults on unconscious victim

Wenatchee shooting deaths

WENATCHEE — A Wenatchee man faces multiple rape charges after allegedly assaulting a woman while she was unconscious, and making video recordings of the crime.

Wenatchee police on Friday arrested Steven Adam Tibbetts, 54, after a woman said she discovered videos of her own assaults on Tibbetts’ phone. Police say he admitted to assaulting the woman and making the recordings at three different locations between March and August — at his home; on a Nahahum County residence; and at a home in Grant County.

Investigators seized Tibbetts’ phone in August, and said they found multiple recordings of him sexually assaulting the woman while she was unable to consent or respond.

The woman had no memory of the incidents; she told police she believes she was drugged. Tibbetts allegedly confessed to the recorded assaults in a police interview Friday.

Investigators are asking Chelan County prosecutors to bring eight charges of second-degree rape. Tibbetts is free on $250,000 bond after spending four days in jail. He’s due back in court Sept. 30.
