WENATCHEE – The case of the Deputy versus the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office may not be over just yet. In a motion filed last week, the attorney representing Chelan County asked Judge John Hotchkiss to lower the damage award to Deputy Jennifer Tyler of $500,000 or call a new trial.
Following the week-long trial earlier this month in Douglas County Superior Court, Tyler was awarded the damages after a jury found that the Sheriff’s Department was guilty of wrongful employment retaliation.
The motion asks the judge to schedule a re-trial or order a reduction of damages. Tyler was awarded $500,000 plus $6,500 in lost wages on March 7th.
Tyler’s attorneys argued that the trial was fair, the award was not out of line and Tyler’s responses on the stand were not prejudicial. Judge Hotchkiss told the court he will review both sides of the case and will have an answer sometime in early April.
