Leavenworth Adventure Park public hearing

It was standing room only today at the Leavenworth Festhalle for a public hearing on the highly publicized adventure theme park proposal.

Chelan County Hearing Examiner, Andrew Kottkamp, presided over the hearing. He heard testimony from dozens of people over the course of the all-day meeting. The vast majority of those who testified opposed the project citing issues such as traffic, parking, noise and aesthetics.

The proposed 10-acre park would include an alpine coaster and other attractions on a hillside at Icicle Road and Highway 2. The project has been controversial from the start.

After numerous objections last summer, developer John Sutherland withdrew, then resubmitted his application. With numerous mitigation requirements, it has cleared most city and state environmental hurdles. Written comments were being accepted until 5:00 p.m. today. A final hearing examiner ruling is pending.
