Lake Wenatchee Fire Chief Mick Lamar to step down June 1

Lake Wenatchee Fire and Rescue Chief Mick Lamar

PLAIN — Lake Wenatchee Fire and Rescue will have a new chief after June 1.

Mick Lamar, who’s headed the rural department since 2012, plans to retire and turn the reins over to current Assistant Chief Dave Walker. In his time as chief, Lamar reduced emergency response times while coping with persistent wildfire threats.

He also led the acquisition of property for a planned new fire district headquarters and training facility outside Plain.

Lamar began his career in fire control in 1980 at Whidbey Island Naval Air Station, and served as chief for multiple departments before joining what was then Chelan County Fire District 9 in 2005, as a volunteer. District 9 later merged with District 4 to serve the greater Lake Wenatchee and Plain areas.
