Lacrosse Battle Ends In 2OT

Richland Edges Wenatchee Valley 10-9 In Double Overtime

(Wenatchee, WA)…Wenatchee Valley and Richland met in a high school lacrosse battle at the Apple Bowl Saturday.  The back and forth contest went into double overtime before it was settled as the Bomber’s Tanner Ricketts scored from 9-yards out with 2:20 remaining to give Richland the sudden-death victory.

Wenatchee Valley got on the board first on a goal by Kutter Wilkens with 8:12 remaining in the first quarter.  The Bombers countered with two quick goals by Christian Matheson and Ricketts just 8-seconds apart to take a 2-1 lead.  Cole Loomis tied it for the Thunder with a goal with 3:11 remaining as the first quarter ended in a 2-2 tie.

Richland’s Todd Henry found the back of the net with 7:02 remaining in the second quarter to lift the visitors to a 3-2 advantage.  Ricketts got his second goal of the game 4-minutes later to make it 4-2 Richland.  Wenatchee Valley wrestled away the momentum in the final minute and a half of the 2nd quarter however as Robey Jorgensen scored two quick goals and Nathan McCarthy added another.  The three goals in a span of 1:03 gave Wenatchee Valley a 5-4 advantage at the half.

The two teams traded goals to begin the 3rd quarter when Richland’s Brady Donaldson slipped a shot into the goal and Ben Higley countered 2-minutes later to put Wenatchee Valley back up 6-5.  Then it was the Bomber’s turn for a run, getting goals from Matheson, Parker Harrison and Ricketts to put Richland on top 8-6 with 4:09 left in the 3rd.  Wenatchee Valley was able to counter with goals by Jorgenson and Conner Tilly to send it to the fourth quarter tied at 8.

Wilkins managed his 2nd goal of the game for Wenatchee Valley 4:50 into the fourth quarter after scooping up a loss ball to the left of the goal crease.  The Thunder were able to hold onto the lead until 2:54 remaining in regulation when Matthew Hoffman scored on an assist from Ricketts to tie it an 9-9 and to overtime it would go.

Neither team managed a goal in the first 4-minute overtime so it would go to the second.  The Thunder missed on a golden opportunity shortly into the second extra frame when a pass entered the front of the goal but Tilly couldn’t handle it.  Richland countered and after the first shot by Ricketts missed wide, the Bomber’s Hoffman chased it down behind the net and fed Ricketts again for the game-winner.

Wenatchee Valley dropped to 3-1 on the season with the loss while Richland improved to 4-2 with the win.  The Thunder will travel to Bothell and Mount Si for games next Friday and Saturday.  Our next broadcast of Wenatchee Valley Lacrosse on the NCWLIFE Channel will be Saturday, April 8th when the Thunder host Issaquah.
