Knapps Hill Tunnel on Highway 97A will be closed much of Tuesday as crews repair damage done to the tunnel during a Sept. 16 accident.

The tunnel will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with a detour available on Highway 971/Navarre Coulee Road.

The Washington State Patrol said 12 support beams in the tunnel were damaged when a southbound vehicle swerved into the oncoming lane and struck a northbound box truck, which then hit another vehicle before crashing into the tunnel wall.

Link Transit said during the tunnel closure its bus routes between Manson and Wenatchee will be using Highway 97 on the east side of the Columbia River.
