(Wenatchee, WA)…Collin Kelley scored 9 of his game-high 24-points in the 3rd quarter to help Davis erase a sluggish first half and beat Wenatchee 56-46 Friday at Wenatchee High School. The 6’6″ junior also helped the Pirates to a 7-2 run to start the fourth quarter while Davis held the Panthers to six 4th quarter points.
It was a tail of two halves with Wenatchee coming out strong with a spirited defensive effort in the first half, breaking out to a 28-18 lead at the half. Luke Worley and Tony Esquivel led the Panther offensive, combing for 24 of Wenatchee’s 28 first half points. It seemed Davis woke up at halftime with a stern talking-to by former Panther coach Eli Juarez as the Pirates cut the deficit to 4 by the end of the 3rd quarter. It was all Davis after that.
Alexander Delgado was the only other Pirate in double figures with 12. Esquivel finished with 19 for Wenatchee while Worley and Darius Carlson each had 10. Wenatchee saw its hopes of the post-season dip a little further, falling to 2-and-7 while the first-place Pirates improved to 7-1.
Wenatchee travels to Sunnyside this Friday, then hosts Moses Lake Tuesday, February 7th before ending the regular season Friday, February 10th at Eisenhower. The Panthers trail Eastmont and Sunnyside by a half-game for the 6th and final playoff spot.
