Keep fire hydrants clear of snow

Winter weather not only makes driving and other activities more difficult, heavy snow also makes it difficult for firefighters to find and access neighborhood fire hydrants in case of a fire. The Manson Volunteer Fire Department reminds residents to keep fire hydrants clear and accessible at all times by removing snow around the hydrants.

Remove any snow and ice and clear a wide enough perimeter (usually about 3 feet) around the hydrant for firefighters to work and easily connect necessary hoses and clear a path from the hydrant to the street for easy accessibility for firefighters.

By following these tips, it will help firefighter’s access water more quickly, allowing for faster fire knock down and potentially preventing property damage and loss.
