WENATCHEE– The monthly jobless numbers released for December show Chelan County’s unemployment rate increased to 6.3 percent compared to November’s 5.7 percent.
In Douglas County the rate increased to 7.7 percent in December versus 6.8 percent for November. State-wide, the jobless rate came in at 5.3 percent in December of 2016, with the national rate at 4.7 percent.
The Wenatchee-area labor market in general experienced a downtown in 2016, driven mostly by Alcoa’s shutdown and the loss of over 300 smelter jobs.
In a comparison to December 2015, the jobless rates remain the same for Chelan and Douglas county at 6.8 percent.
