WENATCHEE — A Burien man who injured three people in a jetski accident on Lake Chelan must serve six months in jail.
Lorenzo Alejandro Lopez, 36, admitted he’d been drinking when he steered his watercraft into a friend’s jetski on June 14 — injuring himself, the other adult, and two children who’d been riding as passengers. Chelan County sheriff’s deputies said the crash was head-on, and the injured children were ages 13 and 5.
Lopez entered a plea Friday to one count of assault by watercraft. While awaiting his day in Chelan County Superior Court, authorities said he twice violated a judge’s order against drinking alcohol, in June and July.
In addition to jail time, Judge Kristin Ferrera ordered Lopez to spend 12 months in an alcohol treatment program once he’s released from jail. In exchange for his plea, prosecutors withdrew charges of boating under the influence.
