Irrigation District asks East Wenatchee residents to cut down water use

EAST WENATCHEE-A broken water pump has forced the Greater Wenatchee Irrigation District to ask some East Wenatchee residents to cut down on water use.

The 1,250 horsepower broken pump was discovered last week. The pump is used to carry water up from the Columbia River to a reservoir which then distributes it along the Rock Island grade.

The pump breakdown affects irrigation service to around 4500 East Wenatchee residents that live on the upper East Wenatchee bench.

District officials are asking residents of that area to reduce water usage by 20-percent to prevent the reservoir from running out of water. The damaged pump is not expected to be back in service for 2-3 weeks.
