Historic fire station bell makes it way to the new Wenatchee station

Workers today removed the iconic fire bell atop Chelan County Fire District 1’s downtown Wenatchee building and moved it to the district’s new fire station.

The new station will open Nov. 23 at the former Prospector Pies location at 731 N. Wenatchee Ave., said District 1 Fire Chief Brian Brett

As the district prepared to leave the station it has called home for 91 years at 136 S. Chelan Ave., Brett said firefighters wanted to take some of the building’s history with them.

After getting the go-ahead from the city’s Historic Preservation Board, both the bell and one of the station’s poles were taken to the new site.

The bell, which hasn’t been used for years, will be displayed in a pedestrian plaza outside the station, while the pole will continue to be used by firefighters for quick access from the second floor to the first.

“We still use the fire poles every day,” Brett said. “It’s still the best way to travel.”
