Historic Chelan celebrates the holiday season with A Small Town Christmas

Chelan had several visits from Santa among other events during the Historic Downtown Chelan Association’s A Small Town Christmas event, which started in late November.

“We’ve got a month full of great, free events to celebrate community and holiday tradition in Chelan,” said Jessie Simmons, Executive Director of the Historic Downtown Chelan Association. “We just want to invite everyone to come down and enjoy.”

So far, people of all ages have joined in on caroling and a tree lighting ceremony, graham cracker cottage making, bazaars, bake sales and more. The event highlights Chelan’s “small town charm” and tradition to bring the community together for a cheerful season, Simmons said.

“The Historic Downtown Chelan Association, our mission is really to create a vibrant community center as well as we see ourselves as the keepers of tradition in Chelan,” Simmons said. “A Small Town Christmas is really the perfect event to do that, and it gives us a whole month to celebrate community in Chelan and to keep these old traditions alive– some that have been going on for decades.”

Coming up on Dec. 10, holiday crafts and a Sugar Plum Dessert Off and Auction are on the schedule, along with story time with Santa at the Chelan Public Library on Dec. 14.

“My favorite part of A Small Town Christmas is in these quieter winter months, having a reason for people to bring their family downtown when they might not think to otherwise,” Simmons said. “To interact with the community and burn some energy just to have a really festive time.”
