PALISADES- An injured hiker is recovering after a dramatic rescue in the Rimrock Meadows area of Douglas County Sunday afternoon.

Sheriff Harvey Gjesdal says the man was hiking with two companions in a canyon near a waterfall when a rock broke free from the cliff and broke his leg.

Eight Volunteers with the Chelan County Volunteer Search and Rescue team along with the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office’s High Angle Rope Rescue Team and a fire rescue team from Grant County were called out to assist in the incident.

The rope-rescue team was able to hoist the man back up the cliff where a helicopter was waiting to transport him to the hospital. The man has been identified as 48-year-old Simon Anderson of Ephrata.
