Almost 24 hours after being closed by a major mudslide, Highway 97A has reopened.
The highway was closed about five miles north of Entiat Tuesday afternoon, disrupting commuters to and from Chelan into Wednesday morning.
The reopening comes as heavy Fourth of July traffic to Lake Chelan was expected. The holiday is typically one of the biggest weekends at the lake.
On the south side of the lake, South Lakeshore Road was buried in mud and rock Tuesday afternoon and remains closed.
However, a one-lane bypass has been opened with flaggers for local traffic only.
That closure is about two-and-a-half miles from Lake Chelan State Park at Slide Ridge.
Slide Ridge, true to its name, has been a problem area for Chelan County crews for years. Major improvements are in the works for dealing with chronic sliding in that area.
