State Sen. Brad Hawkins has received the 2019 Legislative Champion award from the Washington Public Utility Districts Association.
The award is given to lawmakers who pursue legislation beneficial to public utility districts.
Hawkins, who represents the 12th District, was honored at the association’s gathering in Vancouver last week.
Presenting the award were Randy Smith, a Chelan PUD commissioner who is president of the association, and the association’s executive director George Caan.
Hawkins introduced a bill at the 2019 legislative session authorizing PUDs to distribute and sell renewable hydrogen.
The bill earned strong bipartisan support and was eventually passed and signed by Gov. Jay Inslee.
