Gunpoint robbery outside East Wenatchee apartment complex

EAST WENATCHEE — Police are investigating an armed robbery carried out at gunpoint Monday night outside an East Wenatchee apartment complex, and were still seeking a suspect as of Tuesday morning.

Police Chief Rick Johnson said the robbery was reported at 10:19 p.m. in the 200 block of Fifth Street Northeast. The female victim told police she was confronted on the sidewalk immediately after exiting a vehicle, by a male suspect armed with a handgun.

The robber allegedly pointed a handgun at the victim’s head, pulled her hair and shoved her to the ground before taking the cellphone she was holding in her hand. A second occupant in the victim’s vehicle witnessed the incident, Johnson said.

The suspect was last seen running eastbound on Fifth Street Northeast. He was described as approximately 5-feet-6-inches tall with a medium to “chubby” build, wearing black clothing with a black face mask and a hoodie sweatshirt. 

City police and Douglas County sheriff’s deputies set up a perimeter, and the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office provided a police dog to attempt to track the suspect, but he was not located.
