The Boy Scouts of America is no longer a boys-only organization. As of last Friday girls are now allowed to join the club too.
Girls between the ages of 11 and 17 can now join troops which will be all-female but connected to the traditional all-male troops. These linked troops might participate in the same activities and hold shared meetings; however, it will be up to each individual troop if they want to be associated or not.
The Boy Scouts of America have taken the action to create a more inclusive organization In 2013, the group permitted gay scouts and abolished the policy banning gay scout leaders two years later. They also began accepting transgender youth in 2017.
