CHELAN — A fire in a Chelan apartment complex Friday night left one person hospitalized at Harborview Medical Center after responders were able to contain the fire to a single unit.

Chelan Fire and Rescue says the unidentified female patient was found unconscious from apparent smoke inhalation after crews responded to the 11:10 p.m. alarm at Lake Chelan Community Apartments, 509 E. Gibson Ave. The first firefighters to arrive found heavy smoke billowing from the lower-level apartment and extinguished the fire quickly after entry.

The victim was found unresponsive in a rear bedroom and take into nearby Lake Chelan Hospital for treatment, before airlift to Harborview. The patient’s identity was not disclosed.

The Chelan fire district was aided by firefighters from Manson, Entiat, Orondo, and Wenatchee due to the size of the building complex and potential risk of spread, but the fire was contained to the initial apartment.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Saturday.
