The Mariners could not survive a 7-run 4th inning by Minnesota in falling to the Twins at T-Mobile Park last night 11-to-6.
The two teams combined for 8-home runs, four of which coming off losing pitcher Erik Swanson. The rookie right-hander had his roughest outing, lasting just 3-innings, allowing 8-runs on 9-hits and four dingers, including a 3-run shot by Byron Buxton in the 4th.
Seattle also got home runs from Malex Smith, JP Crawford, Daniel Vogelbach and Ryon Healy, but it wasn’t enough against the 16-hit onslaught of the Central-Leading Twins.
Astros lead grows while they sit
The two teams meet again tonight at 7:10 with Marco Gonzales going up against Minnesota’s Martin Perez.
Also in the American League West last night, it was Oakland destroying Detroit 17-3 and Texas clobbering Kansas City 16-1.
The Astros were idle but extended their lead over Seattle in the standings to 8-games. Just a game-and-a-half separates the next four teams in the A-L West.
