State Senator Brad Hawkins sponsors forest fire reduction bill

OLYMPIA – Legislation is moving forward in the Legislature that authorizes the Department of Natural Resources to approve spending on forest fire reduction work. The measure sponsored by Senator Brad Hawkins enables state and federal agencies to partner on forest management and other land-related work.

Hawkins says its another example of how the Legislature and DNR recognize the important connection between improving the health of our forests and reducing the risk of megafires.

Senate Bill 6211 would create an account in the state treasury to process revenues collected under the Good Neighbor Authority agreement entered into last year between the Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Forest Service.
