STEHIKIN – Chelan County Commissioner Doug England says there appears to light at the end of the tunnel in terms of a solution for rebuilding the Upper Stehekin Valley Road. The road was washed out in a catastrophic flood in 2003 forcing the National Park Service to close a portion of it.
The closure restricts motorized access to popular recreation areas such as the Cottonwood Camp and the Cascade Pass. Commissioner England says he received some encouraging news when he visited with federal officials in Washington DC last week.
Commissioner England added that he’s optimistic that under the new administration there will be a greater emphasis on improving access into National Parks for everyone including those who are disabled or otherwise unable to enjoy the experience.STE
