After firefighters put out a corn stubble fire Thursday afternoon outside Moses Lake that was threatening livestock, the cows showed their gratitude by getting in the way of mop-up work.

Grant County Fire District 13 said they were able to limit the fire in the 2900 block of Road 9 Northwest to about half an acre.

No cows were injured.

“We’ve talked to the younger cows about playing with lighters,” the district joked on Facebook.
