A firefighter rescued a dog from Roses Lake near Manson this morning after the dog’s owner went into the water himself in an unsuccessful rescue attempt.
Manson Fire Chief Arnold Baker said the dog was about 50 feet offshore and struggling to stay above water when firefighters arrived about 9:30 a.m.
A firefighter went into the water and retrieved the dog.
Its owner, meanwhile, was on the shoreline wet and cold. Both the dog and man were treated for mild hypothermia at the scene.
“We got the dog in, so all is well,” Baker said.
The incident, near the boat launch, was first reported as a person falling through the ice.
The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office and Manson EMS also responded.
The fire department is warning that with the warming weather the ice on the lake is too thin for people to be walking on.
