Fire district vehicle hit by suspected drunk driver on Highway 2

The Washington State Patrol says a suspected drunk driver crashed his Dodge Avenger at a high rate of speed into a Douglas County fire tender Sunday night outside East Wenatchee.

There was a detour on Highway 2 for about three hours near Blue Grade Road following the wreck.

The driver of the vehicle, Jose G. Cararez, 26, of Wenatchee and a passenger were transported to Central Washington Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

His vehicle flipped on its top in the highway. The fire district truck had to be towed from the scene.

Trooper John Bryant said Monday morning that Cararez remains in the hospital but a judge approved a blood draw and he now faced drunken driving charges.

He also was driving with a suspended license, Bryant said.

There were no injuries to Douglas County Fire District personnel.
