If you haven’t replaced your air filter, you could be faced with a hefty repair bill. Patriot Plumbing and Heating co-owner, Matt Laverne offers some advice on how you can avoid that.

Laverne recommends that a one-inch filter be changed once a month during normal weather conditions. Under extremely smokey conditions it should be checked more frequently. Laverne says there’s a new product on the market that is designed specifically to filter out smoke.

Its also advised that portable high efficiency HEPA air cleaners can supplement the work of the HVAC system by removing fine particulates. HEPA filters. These filters are more expensive and need more frequent replacement.

Experts also caution against using non-filtered free-standing fans because they only spread dust and smoke particulates around the room.
