Ex-ticket manager charged with $40,000 theft from Mission Ridge

WENATCHEE — Police say a former employee at Mission Ridge Ski and Board Resort admitted to stealing large amounts of money from the resort.

Mary Elizabeth Peterson, 47, of Entiat allegedly took almost $40,000 while employed there in 2018 and 2019, by falsifying refunds on season passes and transferring the money to her own bank accounts.

Chelan County sheriff’s deputies say Peterson, who’s also known as Mary Nelson, worked at Mission Ridge from 2015 until her dismissal in spring 2019, when the ski resort fired her for poor performance. She worked as manager of the resort’s ticketing department from fall 2018 until her firing.

Resort staff learned of the alleged theft when a customer asked for a refund on a season pass in October 2019, but the ticketing system showed it had already been refunded. They found 60 to 70 refunds Peterson allegedly issued to herself between January 2018 and March 2019.

Deputies say Peterson admitted to the theft in a police interview in December, but she believed she’d only stolen about $20,000. Prosecutors charged her Thursday with a single count of first-degree theft. She’s due to make her first appearance Feb. 12 in Chelan County Superior Court.
