Eastmont loses Heartbreaker to Mead

For 77-minutes last night, it looked like Eastmont was going to earn a spot in the quarterfinals of the State 4-A Soccer Tournament. But then came those final three minutes…

Mead erased a 1-nil lead in the final three minutes, scoring two goals and ending Eastmont’s season 2-1 at Wildcat Stadium.

The Panthers came out swinging in the first half, but Eastmont absorbed every blow, going into the intermission scoreless. Jayden Brown broke the stalemate 5-minutes into the second half, giving the Wildcats a 1-nothing lead.

Eastmont ends its season 13-4-and-2. Mead goes on to face Gonzaga Prep in the quarterfinals.

Also last night in the 1-A Tournament, Freeman beat La Salle 2-nil. So the Scotties will take on Cascade in the quarterfinals Saturday at 3 o’clock at Gonzaga Prep High School in Spokane.

State 1B Volleyball Scoreboard

Pateros advanced to the quarterfinals with a 3-2 win over Neah Bay. It was a classic! The scores were 26-24, 25-22, 17-25, 24-26, 15-13). The Nannies is facing Odessa this afternoon. Meanwhile, Almira-Coulee Hartline also advanced to the quarterfinals with a 3-0 win over Shorelins, 25-21, 17 and 23. The Warriors are facing Puget Sound Advent tonight.

State 2B Volleyball Scoreboard

Lake Roosevelt dropped back to the consolation bracket with a 3-1 loss to Kalama this morning 25-15, 13-25, 16-25 and 21-25. We’re still waiting on a score from Brewster and Colfax. The Raiders face Chewelah in a must win game tonight in the consolation bracket.

Cashmere’s Van Lith ready to choose

Cashmere’s All-State and nationally-ranked basketball phenom Hailey VanLith will make an announcement Saturday about her college of choice. The signing ceremony will be held at Cashmere High School.

VanLith is in her senior year and has been recruited heavily since she was a freshman by the best colleges across the country. Apparently, VanLith has narrowed the candidates to either Baylor or the University of Louisville.

Hailey’s announcement is open to the public and will start at Noon Saturday in Cashmere’s Ron Doane Memorial Gymnasium. Our own Rachael Mandellis will be there to cover it and have an exclusive interview for us Monday here on the NCWLIFE Channel.

Wenatchee’s Nate Blauman shares League MVP honors with Sunnyside’s Mike Rivera. Chase Loidhamer is the Lineman of the Year. Coach of the Year is Scott Devereaux. The Offensive Line of the Year is Eastmont while Wenatchee’s front is the Defensive Line of the Year.

Local selections on the 1st Team in offense is Wenatchee’s Camden Sirmon at quarterback; Eastmont’s Carson Talley and Wenatchee’s Nate Blauman at running back; the Panther’s Riley Kunz at tight end; and offensive lineman Andrew Snyder and Tony Ortega of Eastmont and Wenatchee’s Sim Cass and Vincent Bentely.
