Eastmont Girls State 4A Bowling Champs, Again
UNIVERSITY PLACE, WA – Eastmont bowlers have repeated as State 4A Girls Bowling Champions today. The Wildcats outpaced 2nd place Thomas Jefferson 7,797 to 7,369. Eastmont came into the day after Thursday’s six individual games by 407-pins.
Wildcats Had 4 Medalists After 1st Day of State
Eastmont had four bowlers finish in the top ten, including Alicia Hastings (3rd), Emmalee Montoya (5th), Becca Mains (6th) and Samantha Heinz (8th). Hasting, the Big 9 Bowler of the Year, averaged 188 over six games at Narrows Plaza Bowl.
It was an early start for the girls today, as the first of 14 Baker Games (5 bowlers bowl 2 frames per game) was played at 8:00 a.m. Eastmont showed no weariness after Thursday’s good start, rolling a 176, followed by a 177 in the 2nd. In 14 Bakers, Eastmont averaged a 174.5, maintain its pace throughout. The lead grew by as much as 513-pins by the 8th baker after the Wildcats bowled a 213. Try as it may, the Thomas Jefferson girls just didn’t have enough games to catch Eastmont, closing the gap to 428-pins when it was all said and done.
Continuing a Tradition of Excellence
In just 5-years of existence, the Eastmont Girls Bowling program now boasts two state championships and a 3rd place finish in 2015. The Wildcats have four Big 9 Titles, 3 District Titles, one Individual State Champion (Cheyenne Greening in 2016), and three Big 9 Coach of the Year recipients (Jeremy Anders twice & Christy Binge once).
Eastmont Athletic Director Russ Waterman says the girls will be recognized Tuesday at halftime of the Eastmont vs. Davis basketball games.
