East Wenatchee teen starts fundraiser with Chris Pratt

EAST WENATCHEE – Makenna Schwab is a 14-year-old from East Wenatchee who’s been receiving treatment from Children’s Hospital in Seattle for most of her life. She’s thankful for the care she’s received and, in her spare time, she’s been raising money and toys for the hospital. After 7 years of fundraising, something unexpected happened.  She got a little help from her favorite celebrity, Chris Pratt, star of Guardians of the Galaxy and Jurassic World.

Chris Pratt Wish Comes True

Makenna met Chris a year and a half ago through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Her wish: to team up with him on a project to help other kids. Together they’ve launched a fundraiser to benefit the orthopedics department at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Chris is offering a trip for 4 people to visit him on the set of his upcoming movie, Jurassic World 2, in Hawaii. It costs just $10 for a chance to win and you can enter as many times as you want.  As of May 16th the contest has raised over $375,000 and there’s still more than two weeks to go.  The contest deadline is May 31st.

Make A Difference Day

Prior to help from Chris, Makenna has raised over $73,000 and more than 2000 toys for Children’s Hospital in Seattle collecting donations on Make a Difference Day in the Wenatchee Valley. She’s been so successful that she’s about to open her own foundation. For more information you can visit her Facebook page: Makenna’s Kids Helping Kids.
