East Wenatchee Police Chief, Assistant Chief file defamation lawsuit

The East Wenatchee Police Chief and Assistant Chief have filed a defamation lawsuit against the union that represents their officers, saying false statements made by a union representative have subjected them to public ridicule.

Named in the suit by Chief Randy Harrison and Assistant Chief Ray Coble were union representative David Simmons and Teamsters Local 760.

In January, officers approved a no-confidence vote against Harrison and Coble by a 16 to 2 margin. Simmons, after delivering the no-confidence letter to the City Council, said in interviews that public safety was threatened by a culture of hostility, retaliation and unethical behavior fostered by the chief and assistant chief.

The suit, filed in Douglas County Superior Court, seeks unspecified monetary damages.
