WENATCHEE- From dust to diamonds is how Stemilt Growers President, West Mathison describes the transformation of its fire-damaged packing house into a hi-tech diamond manufacturing facility.
San Francisco-based Diamond Foundry is in the process of redeveloping the North Wenatchee property and officials say it should be up and running later this summer.
Mathison commented on why the company selected Wenatchee…
“They looked at a number of locations around the Northwest and after a process settled on our location because it has a substation there, it’s inside of a city and it has good access to the trail,” Mathison said. “They’re going to bring a lot of new people to the Valley, so they thought they better have a nice location for them to move to.”
Mathison says the area, once completed, will be a nicely-developed light-industrial area.
Meanwhile, Stemilt is in the process of relocating its fruit distribution operations to a new automated facility which is also under construction at Olds Station. Mathison says its targeted for opening in May.
