DUI patrols will be heavy for Leavenworth’s Oktoberfest

The Washington State Patrol will once again be out in force this month in Leavenworth looking for drunk drivers during the annual Oktoberfest celebration.

The annual three-weekend festival, which starts this weekend, is known for its rollicking beer-fueled fun.

But Trooper John Bryant warns that taking that fun on the road would be a big mistake.

Extra troopers will be patrolling the roads and also responding to citizen reports of erratic driving, he said.

The WSP’s Mobile Impaired Driving Unit will also be on hand.

The 37-foot motorhome is equipped with breath test equipment and holding cells.

Bryant suggests celebrants who are drinking take one of the free or low-cost shuttles available.
